AlbinoMouse – Free WordPress Theme

I am pleased to introduce you to my first free WordPress theme «AlbinoMouse». Funny name, isn’t it? The name is based on the look of a small white mouse. The size of the animal symbolizes the minimalist style. The white fur of the mouse stands for a bright and clean design. The distinctive, red eyes represent a variable, bright color used for hyperlinks and the footer background.

AlbinoMouse advances to the second round

As version 1.4. was not added to the repository on wordpress.org, I decided to completely redesign AM. AM is now based on the Bootstrap 3.0 framework. The design is changed particularly in its navigation, but the minimalist style is maintained and improved.

The integrated shortcodes and social media buttons had to be removed, due to the theme guidelines.

Themes must not incorporate the following plug-in-territory functionality.
– Content sharing buttons/links
– Custom post-content shortcodes
– …

These limitations make sure the user can change a theme without obstacles. This is understandable, but it might be inconvenient for those who already use the first AM version.

Since the shortcodes of version 1 are no longer working, they must be deleted from the posts and pages.

To make sure the contents can still be inserted using shortcodes, I recommend installing the Bootstrap Shortcodes plug-in. This allows you to use the grid system, buttons and the Glyphicons icon font – without any knowledge of the code.

To continue using appropriate social share buttons, I added an optional stylesheet. The stylesheet adapts the appearance of the multi-plug-in Jetpack to the AM theme.

Theme Design

AM’s design is minimalist and clean. The backgrounds consist of light, transparent and gray areas. The color of the texts is a dark gray and the size provides for good readability. In addition, a color can be defined which is used for all links and the footer background.

Responsive Theme

The output of AM automatically adapts to the end device. A website should be just as readable on mobile devices without the user having to take any actions. Media queries help loading different styles, depending on the screen size.

Browser Compatibility

AM operates with HTML 5 and CSS 3. Up-to-date browsers show an AM website without any display problems. Older browser versions, especially the Internet Explorer, may show discrepancies.

Theme Options

The theme options of AM offer numerous possibilities to adapt the theme to your own needs. A complete listing of various options can be found in the documentation.

  1. thank you so much for this theme! it took so long for me to find something like this!

i’m pretty much a novice when it comes to this stuff, but: is there a way I can reduce the top margin of the main page content? I don’t want it starting so low on the page. I would rather bring it up much closer to the header. I’m not sure which part of the stylesheet I should change.

    Any tips appreciated! Thanks again!

    • Hi meegan

You’re talking about your frontpage, right? You’ve got lot of space, because you don’t show the title.
You could disable the title just on the frontpage with this:
      #post-91 .entry-header { display: none; }

If you customize any of the original files, it can be overwritten during a theme update. I recommend you to backup your changes or create a Child Theme.

  2. Hello,
I’m having trouble changing the color of the actual font. Once I changed the background color the font becomes very hard to see. Otherwise an excellent theme.

  3. Hi: I spent all day trying to find a better responsive theme than ‘Montezuma’ which I’ve been using for quite a while. I found Albino Mouse – fantastic!

  4. Great Theme, it’s my first experience with wordpress. Your Theme is very easy to navigate compared to some others I tried out. Is it possible to change the Font or Menu button colour? Do I need to go through the HTML or CSS? Thanks again for such a nice Theme.

    • Hi Kirk, log into the backend and switch to the menu appearance. Is AlbinoMouse activated you’ll find find a link is called Theme Options. For those options you don’t need any CSS. Unless you are not satisfied with those options, you have to care about CSS.

  5. Hello Stefan…. Thank you for this awesome theme! I have one question… Is it possible to turn off the comments section on specific pages? Thanks!

    • Hi samantha
Sure you can. Just edit the page you want and deactivate “Allow Comments” under “Discussion”. If you cannot see the option “Discussion” you enable it at the screen options on the top right.

  6. Hi,

Great theme, keep the good work. I am facing an issue since the last update. The sub items in the menu hare not showing. They are set correctly and when changing the theme to the base theme of wordpress the sub items are visible.

    Any idea?

    Regards

    • Hi Bert,
thanks I’m glad. Unfortunately since AM is based on the Bootstrap framework, submenus are not possible anymore. You are still able to create dropdown menus. Have a look on the doc page and learn how you may structure your menu instead.

  7. Really nice theme, many thanks! My one request would be to be able to set a logo for the mobile site, it’s a real shame reducing it to text (and not even the chosen header font).

Thanks again, a very well thought out, delightfully designed and intuitively implemented theme.

  8. Hi Stefan,
I do not want the “leave a reply” and “comment” area at the bottom of my static pages. Is there a way to get rid of that? I have gone to screen options and made sure that the discussion and comment boxes are not checked but that does not seem to take of it.

    Thanks for your help! Sue

  9. Hallo,
mir gefällt AlbinoMouse bestens. Verwende es für meine Website.
Würde mich freuen, wenn im Menü auch noch Untermenüs angezeigt werden können.
Oder habe ich etwas übersehen, damit es klappt?
